Marin took home title #19 -and his first in 3 years – defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6(2), 6-3 at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart. This was the first time Marin’s son Baldo was able to attend a match of his father’s, proving to be quite the lucky charm. “It is a joy to win my first title with my family here for the first time at any tournament.” Not only did Marin take home new silverware, as the winner of the tournament he also received a brand new Mercedes automobile, which he joked belongs to his lucky charm, Baldo.
Marin did not drop a set on his way to taking home the title, showing great form in preparation for the grass season. Next up for Marin is The Queen’s Club in London, where Marin has taken home the trophy twice, most recently fending of Novak Djokovic in the finals in 2018. “I felt like I was playing good tennis in these last few weeks. Winning here is a great way for me to continue my form and it gives me a good sign for Queen’s and Wimbledon”
