After more than 3 hours of battle, Marin lost his first Australian Open final! Under the Rod Laver Arena roof, Roger Federer won in a five-set thriller with a final result of 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
„Amazing journey for me. Could have been the best two weeks of my life, but Roger played a great fifth set. Want to thank my team. Hopefully, we are going to be reaching many GS finals and lifting these trophies in the future. Honour to play here and I hope to be doing so for years to come. Thank you for your support and my fans.“
After winning the US Open title in 2014, and reaching the Wimbledon final last year, Marin’s third Grand Slam final launched him to his highest ever ATP Ranking, World No.3
“No. 3 feels and looks amazing! (…) For me it’s a great time that I improved and that I am continuing to improve. Big times ahead for me.
