For the third time this year in as many attempts, Marin reached at least the quarterfinals at an ATP World Tour 500 Event, this time at the China Open in Beijing (for the third time there).
At the Olympic grounds he recorded two wins in straight sets, before losing against Andy Murray in the quarterfinals (6/1, 6/4).
It was Marin’s first loss in Singles since August, after winning ten consecutive matches, including seven wins at the US Open and one during the Davis Cup weekend against Netherlands in Amsterdam.
“I made many unforced errors and it is very difficult to expect good result playing against Andy playing this way. I did not serve good as well”, Marin said after the match.
Marin has now 13-6 record in Beijing, with two finals (2009 and 2011).
He further improved his chances to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals for the first time, adding another 90 points.
