Davis Cup : Croatia into Last Eight

Croatia qualified for the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup at expense of Belgium on clay at Country Hall in Liege.

Belgium, finalist of the latest edition in November, played at home for the 5th time in a row while Croatia played away for the 9th time in 10 ties.

In the opening match on Friday, Marin beat Kimmer Coppejans in three sets: 5-7, 3-6, 5-7. David Goffin tied then to 1 all with a victory over Borna Coric 6-3, 6-2, 2-6, 3-6, 6-3.

On Saturday, Croatia took the lead after doubles win by Ivan Dodig and Franko Skugor against David Goffin and Ruben Bemelmans 6-7 (5/7), 3-6, 1-6.

In the first rubber on Sunday, David Goffin cancelled out the early advantage of Croatia with a win over Marin 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 5-7 and put both countries on equal terms (2-2).

In the fifth and final match of the weekend, Borna Coric beat Kimmer Coppejans in 3 sets 6-7 (5/7), 2-6, 2-6. This success achieved the Croats victory to finally beat Belgium 3-2.

In the quarterfinals, Croatia will play against the United States (on American soil) victorious in Australia (1-3).
