For the fourth time this year Marin reached at least the semifinals of an ATP event – this time at the Vegeta Croatia Open in Umag.
First two matches he won in straight sets, both against Igor Sijsling from the Netherlands and Lukas Rosol from Czech Republic, but lost in the semis against defending champion Tommy Robredo from Spain.
“I played good tournament, even though I would like it more if I have reached the final or won title again. I had two good wins and I am pleased with the way I played against Robredo until I served for the first set at 5/3”, Marin said after the tournament he won in 2012.
In the semifinals Marin lost to Robredo 6:7 (10), 3:6, after failing to convert seven set points, five of them on his own serve. Nevertheless, he showed again some good form.
“Now I will have a few days off and then will be heading to the American hardcourt season. There are two Masters 1000 events and US Open at the end. I played in the second round of the Australian Open, in the third round at the French Open, in the quarterfinals in Wimbledon and hope that in New York I will continue improving”, Marin said.
