Game Set Croatia in Petrinja

After a hiatus in 2020, the second annual Game Set Croatia humanitarian tournament was held in Petrinja July 12th & 13th. For the first time in history the stars of Croatian sport gathered in Petrinja to show the children of Sisak-Moslavina County that they are not alone as they continue to recover from the devastating earthquakes that shook the region in December 2020, while raising funds for the construction of two multifunctional playgrounds in the earthquake affected region: one in Petrinja, and one in Hrvatska Kostajnica.

The tournament itself was hosted on the newly constructed playground at Dragutin Tadijanovic Elementary School in Petrinja where spectators were treated to a show of athleticism and sportsmanship by Croatia’s most renowned athletes. Event partners provided additional entertainment in the pop-up Tennis Village adjacent to the school which included evening movie screenings, arts & crafts and sports activities for all ages. Children from the region also had the opportunity to play tennis with our foundation’s founder, Marin Cilic, during Kid’s Day. Eurovision contestant Albina & former Marin Cilic Foundation scholarship recipient, flautist Maja Batinjan, provided the musical entertainment.

Ivan Perisic, Ivan Dodig, Luka Cindric, Marin Cilic, Luka Modric, Nikolina Bozicevic, Borna Coric, Mario Mandzukic, Patrik Jurina, Mateo Kovacic, Donna Vekic, Tsimafei Zhukouski, Jelena Kostanic, Franko Lazic, Vilim Visak, and Dino Prizmic were this year’s participants in the doubles tennis tournament. After electrifying semi-final and final matches, Marin Cilic & Luka Modric took home the title after defeating Ivan Perisic and Ivan Dodig with a final result of 15:12.

The ultimate winners of the tournament were the partners, donors, volunteers, organizers, athletes, and all who in one way or another helped in making this event such a success and in doing so provided the children of Sisak-Moslavina County with two unforgettable days and two new playgrounds to be enjoyed for years to come.

Full of positive memories from Petrinja, we have already begun preparations for the third edition of this unique event.
